At 2:30PM Friday, TFD was toned out for a male subject with a head injury near the base of the?small falls at Taughannock Falls State Park. Initial reports from the scene stated the man was about 15ft-20ft below the main trail and was conscious. While en route, 1863 and 1865 made the call for Ithaca Fire to respond with?944 and?942?to the scene. Rescuers were able to gain access to?the victim?via a stone stairway and a short walk through the water.?After assessing?both the patient and the water, command decided to send six firefighters up the creek to meet?with EMS personnel and?extricate the patient? through the water and back up the stone stairway. Just under and hour from the initial time of call, the male had been removed and was ground transported to a hospital in Rochester. Along with IFD, Park Police, and Park personnel aided in the rescue and with crowd control.
